READY SALTED
Annette Gibbons O.B.E.
Annette grew up in the 1950s with parents who grew and cooked with their own produce as was the norm during that period. She studied both domestic and cordon bleu cookery and continues to enjoy feeding people.

Having worked as a tour guide at Victoria Falls when she younger, her love of Cumbrian food and the beautiful scenery of the Lake District came together to form Cumbria On A Plate Food Safaris to connect local people to their food and culture. She also ran Cumbria’s Fine Dining Club for over 20 years.
She has written two books on Cumbrian food exploring seasonal food. She presented four series on ITV Border celebrating what’s best growing in our region.
In 2006 she was Cumbria Woman of the Year and in 2009 Annette was awarded an O.B.E. for services to Food and Farming in Cumbria.
Annette’s interest in organic growing started nearly 40 years ago when she moved to her seaside garden and wanted to grow vegetables for her two children. “I was keen that they should know that peas come from a vine that they could pick and pod themselves”.
She is a member of the Slow Food movement and enjoys being in her kitchen garden – saying that most of the vegetables come ready salted from the Solway wind flying over her garden wall.
Annette’s fast moving slide show will take you through Cumbrian seasons in the garden and sunsets on the Solway. When she’s not pottering in the raised beds she can often be found swimming the sea.
