The Rum Story
As CEO of Whitehaven Harbour Commissioners, a not-for-profit organisation, Deanne oversees a dedicated, small team focused on managing and maintaining the town’s 400-year-old harbour and estate, The Rum Story visitor attraction and shop, several car parks, multiple tenants, the building of a new coastal activities centre, and more…! She was previously CEO of a local theatre, having made a significant career change following 27 years in local newspaper journalism.
Deanne will explore the rich history of Jefferson’s Extra Fine Dark Rum and its role in Whitehaven’s past, while highlighting how Whitehaven Harbour Commissioners came to operate from the Jefferson 1785 building in the heart of Whitehaven. She will also discuss how the team is embracing the future of the harbour and visitor attraction, balancing heritage and progress in a challenging economic climate.
